Get to know how it all works

Welcome to our sunless tanning FAQ! We're thrilled to have you here. Our goal is to provide you with all the information you need to achieve that gorgeous, sun-kissed glow you've been dreaming of, using our safe and expert spray tanning services. Let's dive in and answer any questions you may have about getting that beautiful, natural-looking tan!
  • What is a spray tan, and how does it work?
A spray tan is a safe and healthy alternative to sun tanning. A professional technician uses a handheld device to apply a fine mist of solution containing DHA (dihydroxyacetone) to your skin. The DHA reacts with the amino acids in your skin's top layer, creating a natural-looking tan that develops within a few hours.
  • How long does a spray tan last?
Spray tans typically last 5-10 days, depending on your skin type and aftercare routine. Proper exfoliation and daily moisturization can significantly extend the life of your tan.
  • Where exactly are you located & what's the space like?
Like many custom spray tan businesses, I provide spray tan treatments out of my home. I have a dedicated space that's been set up for the sole purpose of providing a comfortable and enjoyable spray tan experience. The space is super cute and very welcoming. From the onset, my goal has been to provide an experience that feels more like a high-end spa than a visit to the typical strip mall tanning salon. In terms of location, we are located on the edge of Ann Arbor and Saline. We are very close to the intersection of Maple & Textile. We are 5 minutes south of the Meijer on Ann Arbor Saline Rd., near Trav is Pointe and conveniently located close to both I-94 and US-23. I'll share the exact address once you book an appointment.
  • What should I do to prepare for my spray tan appointment?
Exfoliate your entire body 24-48 hours before your appointment to remove dead skin cells and create a smooth canvas for the tan. Shave or wax at least 8 hours beforehand. Avoid using lotions, oils, deodorants, or makeup on the day of your tan, as they can create a barrier and affect the application.
  • What should I wear to my spray tan appointment?
Wear loose-fitting, dark-colored clothing that you don't mind getting slightly stained (the DHA may cause minor staining on light fabrics). We recommend bringing flip flops to wear after your tan application.
  • What do I wear during the spray tan application?
You can wear as much or as little as you are comfortable with during your appointment. Think about tan lines. You can wear just underwear, underwear and bra or a swimsuit or nothing at all. Men please bring boxers, briefs or a swimsuit to wear during your tan. (Disposable underwear will be available.)
  • How long does a spray tan appointment take?
A typical spray tan appointment takes about 20-30 minutes, including consultation, preparation, the tanning application itself, and drying time.
  • How long should I wait after my tan to shower?
For our Standard tan, we recommend waiting at least 8 to 12 hours before showering to allow the tanning solution to fully develop on your skin. This time frame ensures that you achieve the desired depth of color and long-lasting results. If you opt for our Rapid tan option, you can shower in as little as 2 to 5 hours after your session. The shorter development time allows for greater flexibility in your schedule while still achieving a beautiful, natural-looking tan.
  • What is the difference between the Standard tan and the Rapid Tan?
Our Standard tan and Rapid tan options offer different development times to accommodate your schedule and preferences. Standard Tan: - Development Time: We recommend waiting 8 to 12 hours before showering to allow the tanning solution to fully develop on your skin. - Ideal for: Clients who prefer a longer development time and plan their tanning sessions accordingly. This option provides a gradual buildup of color for a natural-looking tan. Rapid Tan: - Development Time: With our Rapid tan option, you can shower in as little as 2 to 5 hours after your session. - Ideal for: Clients with busy schedules or those who need a quick tan for a special occasion. This option offers the convenience of a shorter development time while still delivering beautiful, natural-looking results. Both tan types use high-quality solutions and are applied by our experienced technicians to ensure a flawless, streak-free tan. Whether you choose our Standard tan or Rapid tan, you can expect radiant, sun-kissed skin that lasts.
  • Will I turn orange with a spray tan?
Absolutely not! We use high-quality solutions formulated to develop a natural-looking tan that complements your skin tone. During your consultation, we will discuss your desired shade and choose the perfect solution for you.
  • Is spray tanning safe?
Yes, spray tanning is a safe alternative to sun exposure. Our solutions are DHA-based, and DHA is approved by the FDA for cosmetic use. We recommend consulting your doctor if you have any concerns, especially if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • How can I make my spray tan last longer?
Here are some key tips: - Moisturize your skin daily with an oil-free lotion. - Avoid hot showers, baths, and excessive sweating. - Avoid chlorine and saltwater, as they can strip away your tan. - Pat yourself dry after showering or sweating, instead of rubbing. - Use a tan extender. We sell the "Sjolie Tan Extender" lotion which will last you for multiple tans. ($24/bottle)
  • Do you offer different shades of spray tan?
Yes! We have a variety of solutions to accommodate different skin tones and desired results. During your consultation, we will discuss your preferences and choose the perfect shade for you.
  • Will my spray tan protect me from the sun?
While a spray tan can provide some additional color to your skin, it does not offer protection from UV rays. We always recommend using sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher when spending time outdoors to protect your skin from sun damage.
  • Can I still get a spray tan if I have sensitive skin?
While spray tans are generally safe for most skin types, we recommend conducting a patch test before your appointment if you have sensitive skin or have experienced reactions to tanning products in the past.
  • Can I swim or exercise after getting a spray tan?
We recommend avoiding swimming, excessive sweating, or activities that may cause you to perspire heavily for the first 24 hours after your spray tan session. This allows the solution to fully set and ensures the best possible results.
  • How often should I get a spray tan?
The frequency of your spray tans depends on your preferences and lifestyle. Many clients opt for weekly or bi-weekly sessions to maintain a consistent tan throughout the year.
  • What if I'm not happy with my spray tan?
We are confident you'll love your sunless tan! However, if you have any concerns, please don't hesitate to let us know within 24 hours of your appointment. We may be able to offer adjustments or touch-ups.
  • I have a special event coming up, when should I get a spray tan?
We recommend getting spray tanned 2-4 days prior to the event. This will allow the tan to fully develop and look the most even for your special event.
